Manual test administration
Introduction to manual test administration
In the Software Factory, you can run and keep track of manual test scenarios. You can create a manual test scenario for testing a complete process from start to finish. As the name suggests, these tests are run manually. You can link a test scenario to a requirement, a business process, a feature, and an iteration.
1. Create a test scenario
A manual test scenario consists of test steps. You can describe every step, its expected outcome and add attachments for more information.
To add a test scenario with test steps:
In tab List, Add
a scenario.
- Settings: enter at least a Status and Sequence no.
- Links: link this scenario to a Requirement, Business process, Feature, or Iteration.
Now, create test steps for this scenario:
- Open tab Test steps.
- Add
the necessary steps.
- Enter for each step a Description and Expected outcome.
If necessary, you can upload attachments:
Attachments can be added at two levels:
- Upload an attachment for a step in tab Manual test scenarios > tab Test steps > tab Attachments.
- Upload an attachment for a scenario in tab Manual test scenarios > tab Attachments.
Change the test scenario's status
- While creating a manual test scenario, you can change its status with the Change status
task.
Available statuses are: new, active, approved, development, review
2. Create a test run
After designing a test scenario, you can create a Test run: a scenario assigned to a specific project and project version. So, a test scenario can contain test runs in multiple projects and project versions. This way, a scenario can be reused, e.g., a scenario for opening a project.
To create a test run:
menu Specification > Manual test scenarios > tab Test runs
- Execute the Create test run
task.
- Select a Manual test scenario.
- Enter a Project and Project version.
Or:
menu Specification > Manual test scenarios > tab List
- Select the scenario.
- Execute the Create test run
task.
- Enter a Project and Project version.

3. Assign a test
Now, assign a tester to a scenario.
- Select a scenario.
- Execute the Create test item
task.
- Select a tester in field Assigned to.

4. Test your software manually
Now, you can manually test your software according to the prescribed tests and outcomes.
- An overview of all the test runs (for all projects and project versions) is available in menu Specification > Manual test scenarios > tab Test runs.
- An overview of all the necessary test runs for one specific project and project version is available in menu Quality > Manual tests.
Select a scenario.
Test your application as described in the steps.
- Use the Approve
task to approve the step.
- Use the Disapprove
task to disapprove the step. Check the Create test finding box to record work for a developer. For traceability, this Work item links to the Test scenario and Test run in which it failed.
- Use the Approve
Choose if you wish to continue the test run or not.

5. Solve a test finding
Several overviews of test findings are available:
- All the test findings for all the test runs in all projects and project versions: menu Specification > Manual test scenarios > tab Test runs < tab Test run > tab Test findings.
- All the test findings for one test run in one specific project and project version: menu Quality > Manual tests > tab Test run > tab Test findings.
- All the test findings for all the test runs in one specific project and project version: menu Quality > Manual tests > tab All findings.
- Assign a person to a test finding with the Assign work item
task.
- If necessary, change the status with Move work status to state
task.
